Time to Bundle Up! Your 5 Must Have Winter Coats This Year!

Time to bundle up because that ultra thick sweater just isn’t going to cut it for the commute to work anymore. I must admit, I am a coat junkie. A bit ashamed to say that I collect coats just like I collect condiments in my fridge - always wanting to try something new because at some point it will be a good pairing. While you might think that you have everything you already need, there are new hotties this year that are worth checking out; new key silhouette that have gotten updates. We’ve put together a list of the 5 must have winter coats you need now! Already have them… not so fast! This year, old school meets new school by vamping up classics with embellishments, velvet and lots of dope hardware like toggle closures. Step up your game ladies, because this winter the rules have changed!

Fresh Princ-ess: Bomber

The 90’s called and they sent their key item back to us. Remember when Salt n Pepa used to rock baseball jackets and we thought they were the bomb.com? Well it’s time we all channel our inner “Shoop” and throw on that banded little number once again. Burberry, Alexander Wang and Rick Owens all showed us that whether it be leather, satin or velvet… We should throw on those high waisted jeans, converse and step back into an episode of Saved By The Bell.

Quilted Beauty: Puffer

Have no fear, that snow will roll right off this puff! Puffer coats are certainly a go to for being functional but now we see designers are adding their flair so that we can head out for a diva worthy snowball fight. Not just for a schlep in sweats, now oversized collars, belted details and luxurious fabrics are a mainstay for Prada, Burberry, Mackage and Etro! Thank you fashion gods – we needed this!

Double Sided Trouble: Shearlings

Janis Joplin would be envious if she was able to peek at how her classic got revamped this year. Unique new silhouettes, crazy outer shell details like velvet and fur as well as statement making trims have turned this 70’s staple into one of the most sought after items this winter! Check out Chloe, Ulla Johnson and Acne Studios who got the message that is was time shearlings make a comeback! Jeans or a dress – you’ll never be warmer!

Animal Instincts: Furs

We’ve already given you our rundown on furs in a prior blog post but seriously we just can’t get enough! Colored, patch work, patterned and bold is the name of the game for 2016-17. We told you to ditch your grandmas mink and we mean it! Celine, Fendi and Altuzarra showed us that these brights give furs an update with a statement making modern and youthful new meaning.

Bigger is Better: Oversized Coats

Boyfriend this and boyfriend that… we have worn the female versions of his jeans & shirts so it was just a matter of time that we’d be wearing his jacket. Trenches, parkas and leather jackets this season have suddenly grown in size. Lucky for us because our slouchy sweaters barely fit into the shrunken jackets we normally wear. Time to turn to something with a dolman sleeve or a looser fit like killer goodies from Acne Studios, Helmut Lang or Stella McCartney!
